Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Alarcon.

Hi Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.

I have 5 kids, 4 boys and 1 girl, when my girl was born in 2010 my life changed in 360 grades because was when the economy crashed, we, sold our house as many families did and times were difficult, I came pregnant again with I wasn’t available to work, was working cleaning houses. I started doing chocolate lollypops for parties and I started to volunteer to help at the party’s my daughter when she was 3, she told me you should open a boutique. Honestly, I didn’t know the concept of a boutique but I started playing with her dressing the dolls. Then after 17 years of marriage, my husband propose to marry through the church and I found how difficult was in this area to find a one-stop shop and more importantly found a good experience while the bride is looking for her dress because I wasn’t able to find what I want I create my own decoration and all details for guesses and family. Everybody loves the result. After the wedding, I took my time to do a review of all the things I couldn’t find during the process and my daughter came with the same thing why you don’t open your boutique? I bought a mannequin and I dress in my wedding dress my daughter and I draw a picture with a dress and her name Barbie’s Boutique this play with her came to reality when I was driving and I saw an empty space with a lot of glasses in the front.

I call my husband right away and I told him about the place, he answer me you are very good at creating things do it? So, I called and rented the space without any knowledge of how a business is run, I had like 5 dresses including my own wedding dress, I didn’t know I need the most important thing was how people will know I’m there and what services I offer. during the first year, I work so hard to learn how to run a business I create my first fashion show to let people know what I can offer, and little by little I take curses about the business because I didn’t have the opportunity to study in my country I did the GED here while I was expecting my daughter because Spanish is my first language I apply for an online colleague in Tec Monterrey Mexico right now I’m doing the university on business management and I took all seminars possible to obtain the knowledge for Barbie’s Boutique, I go every year to MBA wedding industry. The most important to me is to create a very special experience for my clients. I’m always at the store. I offer personalized advice to each client. Meanwhile, I create Gift boxes for Barbie’s Boutique and Cheers boutique events these two companies go by hand with all I do so my kids are part of all they learn with me and they help me with advice on how to be better each day. When I open the store in June 2014, I never thought I will grow and create my own designs and my own brand. I’m very proud of this because is not just my work is all my family’s work, they support my decisions, give me ideas and be patient when mom needs to work.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

No isn’t a smooth language and my knowledge and believe me being Latin makes it very difficult. Dealing with the brands and understanding the way of weddings, prom, and homecoming work was a huge challenge to me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Barbie’s Boutique is a one-stop shop you can find all your needs for your upcoming event. I’m authorized to retail recognized brands but also I have custom-made dresses, and personalized advice, I have just one dress of each to make you unique at your event, but I can bring any style in different colors and sizes. I offer event decor, proposal and gift boxes, embroidery, alterations, custom shoes, jewelry, and special events.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.

I think is not luck all is hard work, and love for the things I do.
